Reial Acadèmia de Medicina
Enjoy a guided tour of the Real Academia de Medicina de Catalunya while you listen to stories about eminent doctors such as Santiago Ramón y Cajal and Miguel de Servet.
ADVANTAGES:
Since 1929, the Real Academia de Medicina de Catalunya has had its headquarters inside the building that once housed the Real Colegio de Cirugía de Barcelona (1760-1843) and then the Faculty of Medicine (1843-1906), a beautiful example of the city's neoclassical architecture. The anatomical amphitheatre, which you can visit, is the most iconic and unique part of the academy and was mainly used to train army surgeons.
The building is situated in the old town and is part of the complex that houses the Hospital de la Santa Creu and Casa de Convalecencia. The buildings were the city's main healthcare facility for more than 500 years from the 15th to 20th centuries.
