The caganer is one of the most cherished figures in our nativity scenes and caganer.com now gives you the opportunity to paint one at their shop and take it home with you.

ADVANTAGES:

The caganer is a figure who is a key part of every Catalan nativity scene. He is a kindly peasant wearing a sash around his waist, sporting the typical red Catalan hat, the barretina, and having a poop. He is usually tucked away in a corner of the nativity scene.

The caganer is thought to have first appeared in the 17th century in nativity scenes in the Catalan Pyrenees, although he didn’t become popular until the 19th century.
Legend says that the caganer fertilises the land with his poops and that’s why he’s considered a symbol of prosperity and good luck.

And now the company caganer.com invites you to its shop (next to the Palau de la Música) to paint and lend your own personalised touch to a clay caganer figure.
The workshop begins with a guided tour led by “Salvador Galí”, a character very similar to the genius artist, Salvador Dalí. Afterwards, you’ll learn about the history of the caganer, how they are made and discover the current best-selling figures (from Messi to Madonna and Harry Potter).

What does your Caganer Experience booking includes?:
  • Painting a caganer and taking it home.
  • Discovering the history of the caganer and how they are made.
  • Guided tour of the shop.
