Itinerary 1- Plà Cerdà and Pg. de Gràcia
- Like so many other cities in the second half of the 19th century, Barcelona decided to knock down its defence walls to develop the surrounding area and embark on a major economic and urban expansion project. Some of the city’s major arteries were widened, the most important of them being the Passeig de Gràcia, which connected the old town with the largest village on its outskirts: Gràcia. The foremost bourgeois families moved there to live.

Itinerary 2- Raval
- Historically speaking, this neighbourhood has been home to buildings that didn’t fit in either due to their size or because they were not looked upon favourably, such as workhouses and almshouses, or because they performed a purely social function, such as hospitals, convents... and later factories and workers’ housing. As we stroll along we will see the way the former convents and monasteries have been transformed into new cultural venues in a neighbourhood that has always provided a refuge for bohemian life, the arts and literature and is now a vibrant multicultural mix and a magnet for new cutting-edge designers and artists.

Itinerary 3- Ribera and Born
- We will visit the part of the old town on the eastern side of the Via Laetana. During the tour, we will discover the architectural gems that were built on land once occupied by military barracks and convents as a result of the redevelopment of run-down neighbourhoods. We will see examples, including the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Santa Caterina market. On this itinerary, we will see how areas of the medieval city have been combined with modern buildings, while maintaining its trademark warmth and human scale.
