Museu de la Catedral

Nowhere else in Barcelona better encapsulates the city’s history, religious art, guilds and the monarchs who governed the city throughout the centuries, than the cathedral.

The cathedral stands right in Barcelona city centre, and today its ancient chapterhouse houses this interesting museum. This Gothic chamber, the former meeting place of the cathedral chapter, showcases some of the most valuable exhibits and works of art no longer used in religious ceremonies.

Of special interest amongst the cathedral’s works are The Pietà by Bartolomé Bermejo and the particularly striking painting over the ribbed vault depicting the glorification of Saint Oleguer and Saint Eulàlia.

In 2007 the museum opened the Saint Sever galleries to the public. They are now used for exhibitions of baroque and contemporary art.
