Architectural and city trails

Much more than architecture!

What connects architecture and the city? History, culture, the city as a complex public phenomenon. Architour, an office of architects, has this philosophy. Routes are therefore an immersion in the city in order to induce travelers and partakers to questioning and feedback.

Itinerary 1- The new Barcelona
  • The route contrasts the radical contemporary architecture with the vibrant factory heritage of the area once known as the “Catalan Manchester”: the paradigm of Barcelona’s textile industrial revolution which created a new sector of society: the Catalan bourgeoisie.
Technological corporative glazed architecture live together with brick old factories, now converted into potent museums and universities in the 22@ District, dedicated to knowledge, innovation and new technologies activities. The Forum area, symbolical ending of the paradigmatic Diagonal Avenue that leads into the sea, concludes the route of a new Barcelona.
  • Includes: tour + coffee at the end of the tour on the terrace of a hotel in the Forum district where you’ll be able to enjoy panoramic views of the city while we discuss the buildings and draw conclusions + complete folder about the route (information sheet, description and photos of all the buildings on the route and a complete bibliography) + Tram ride (2 stops).
  • Length of tour: 3 hours.
  • Maximum numbers: 12 people per guide/architect.
  • Language and times:
    • English: Thursday at 3pm.
    • Catalan and Spanish: Friday at 3pm.
  • Departure point: Agbar Tower (under the entrance canopy), in Plaça les Glòries. Metro L1: Glòries. Tram T5 and T6 La Farinera/T4 Glòries. Bus: 7, 60, 92, 192 and H12. Please arrive 10 minutes before departure. See map
Itinerary 2- Sarrià and Pedralbes, Barcelona garden city
  • The former village, which lies at the foot of the mountain, is an example of non-compact urban planning. Semi-detached houses and detached mansions, prestigious schools and healthcare facilities, and an introspective private life reveal another Barcelona which is more solitary and where textures and the landscape play a central role. Originally a place where the city’s bourgeoisie would spend the summer, Sarrià went on to become a favourite place for today’s well-heeled residents. The route explores the urban planning and sociology in this “laboratory” with its wealth of residential architecture which has continued with the lessons of rationalism.
  • Pedralbes Monastery, one of the jewels of Catalan Gothic architecture, the Güell Estate designed by Gaudí and a vast ensemble of contemporary architecture are the linking threads that immerse us in what was originally designed as a garden city.
  • Includes: tour + coffee at the end of the tour at the l’Illa shopping complex where we’ll discuss the buildings and draw conclusions + complete folder about the route (information sheet, description and photos of all the buildings on the route and a complete bibliography) + travel on Catalan railway (FGC)+ Ticket to Museu-Monestir de Pedralbes.
  • Length of tour: 3 hours.

    • Catalan and Spanish: Friday at 10am.
